When a heavy-duty diesel block has run with a spun bearing — or when a re-built block needs its main saddles trued in a single pass — the LB-550 is the machine for the job. A single boring bar runs the full length of the block, supported on hardened bushings at both ends, ensuring that every main bore is concentric with the next.
The machine is set up on the block itself, not the other way around: the block is clamped to the table once, levelled, and the bar runs through.

Cheap rigs rebore one main saddle at a time, using a stub bar and re-locating between bores. That is fast for the operator but leaves the bores ever-so-slightly out of line. The LB-550 takes one extra minute to set up — and rewards the workshop with a crankshaft that turns freely on the first try.
